With the iPhone 3G set to hit the market this moth there are lots of gadget fans out there counting the days until they can get a new phone. If you aren’t with AT&T and still want a cool touchscreen device you have some options including the new unlocked device from Openmoko.
The OPENMOKO NEO FREERUNNER is set to hit the market on July 4 and is an open device operating on GNU/Linux. Included software for the device allows it to dial calls, SMS and record contacts. The open nature of the device means that it can be upgraded with more features and functions. Openmoko says that the first upgrade will come in August and add location based services to the FreeRunner.
The Neo FreeRunner comes in two versions that will run on either 850Mhz or 900MHz tri-band networks for different countries. The phone is black in color and weighs only 6.5 ounces. The screen of the phone is touch-sensitive and 2.8-inches in size and has a 480 x 640 resolution. Other features include Wi-Fi, AGPS, GPRS 2.5G, Bluetooth 2.0 and a pair of 3-axis motion sensors. Memory for the phone includes 128MB of WSDRAM ad 256MB of NAND Flash. The FreeRunner will retail for $399.
