SUBARU IMPREZA 1993-1996 WORKSHOP MANUAL – SUBARU WORKSHOP MANUAL

Prior to the release of the Impreza in 1993, Subaru had a great deal of success in the medium car sector with the Liberty. The launch of the fully-imported Impreza was part of its push to get a larger piece of the small-medium sector, competing against the Ford Laser, Toyota Corolla, Mitsubishi Lancer and Honda Civic.
Initially there were 10 Impreza variants offered. There was a sedan in 1.6 litre LX or 1.8 Litre GX versions, plus the choice of four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmissions. GX buyers also had the choice of front two-wheel drive or constant four-wheel drive. There was also the unusually styled five door which looked like a cross between a hatchback and a wagon. Available only in the better-equipped GX version, buyers still had the choice of two-wheel drive or constant four-wheel drive, and auto or manual transmission. The Sportswagon was introduced in 1994 and a limited edition LXS sedan in 1995.
The Impreza’s 1.6 and 1.8 litre engines feature the horizontally opposed ‘boxer’ engine layout. Claimed benefits include compact size, lower centre of gravity, low mass, high rigidity and lighter internal components that require less power to rotate.
